THE BEACH ORGANICS KITCHEN GARDEN WORKSHOP
Our small farm, was born from a treeless paddock purchased by Barry Beach in the early 1980’s.
You’ll walk under broad canopies of 100’s of native trees planted and see over 100 edible species growing, from bananas, to pomegranates, heirloom apples, quinces, figs, plums, berries, herbs and vegetables etc.
A low cost, owner-built earth cottage, swales, worm farms, mud brick wood oven, hot houses, integrated poultry forage system, bee hives, multiple vegetable / herb garden beds and fruit orchards provide a good level of self-sufficiency.
This is now our template for our overseas “Village Based” Enterprise Projects, supporting organic farmers on three continents, growing our coffee, tea, tamarind, vanilla, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger etc. We’ll explore some of their growing tips.
We’ll show you how to:
• Build humus rich, healthy soils.
• Integrate poultry into your gardens and keep the foxes away.
• Manage weeds and potential pests.
• Choose garden tools i.e. broad forks, oscillating wheel hoes, flame weeders etc.
• Realise the importance of crop rotation and legumes.
• Create your own aerated liquid compost.
• Use simple permaculture principles to create your own edible landscape.
• Choose the right crops for your location.
THE WORKSHOP will be designed for the novice, or those seeking additional ideas or inspiration.
